A Good Change Has Come
With all the distress and upheaval, at least a good and interesting change has come...to network news and comedy.
Newscasters and comedians have abandoned studios and stages for corners of their own homes, where we get insight into them through their books and decor.
And a glimpse of PBS correspondent Lisa Desjardin's cat doing its thing on the sofa in the background.
Stephen Colbert is the news commentator who makes me laugh.
His political interviews are as pointed as ever, but other conversations feel more loose and spontaneous than before.
Last night he introduced his wife, Evie, who received a hug and a kiss and a wide smile. She was taking over the technical roles of his production.
This change of scene is new, and welcome. The glitz is gone and is not missed.
